What it does
A YouTube QR code opens a channel, a video or a playlist. Type the channel @handle or paste a link from youtube.com, youtu.be or YouTube Music; tracking parameters are dropped, while the video ID, playlist and start time are kept.
Teachers use it to send students to a lesson, shops to show a product demo and musicians to share a new song. On phones with the app, the video opens in YouTube; otherwise it plays in the browser.
How to use
- Type the channel @handle or paste the link of the video or playlist.
- See in the Final link that the start time or playlist was kept.
- Scan the preview to confirm the right video opens.
- Download the code in SVG or PDF for print or PNG for slides.
Examples
- A worksheet with a code to the video lesson that explains it.
- Furniture packaging that opens the assembly video.
- A concert poster with the band’s new music video.
Frequently asked questions
Can the video start at a certain minute?
Yes. Copy the link with the start time from YouTube’s share option and paste it. The t parameter is kept in the code.
Do playlists work?
Yes. Paste the playlist link; the list parameter is kept so the code opens the whole playlist.
What is a channel @handle?
It is the name that starts with @ on your channel page, such as @mychannel. Typing it gives a short address that keeps working even if you rename the channel title.
Why was part of my link removed?
Parameters such as si or feature only track how the link was shared. Removing them makes the code smaller without changing the video that opens.
Will an unlisted video open?
Yes. Anyone with the link can watch an unlisted video, and the code is the link. Private videos only open for people you invited.
Privacy and permanence
Video IDs and start times are processed only in your browser and never reach our servers. Unlisted videos stay as private as their link: the static code is that link, valid while the video, playlist or channel is available.
