What it does
An SMS QR code opens the messaging app with the recipient number and, if you want, a message already typed. The person only taps send.
It suits text-to-join campaigns, opt-ins, keyword votes and contact for people without mobile data. SMS works on any phone line, without apps or accounts.
Choose the compatible SMSTO format, read by almost every camera and QR app, or the standard sms: link. Remember that SMS can be charged by the carrier of the person who sends it.
How to use
- Choose the country and type the number that will receive the SMS.
- Write the message, or leave it blank for the person to type.
- Keep the compatible SMSTO format unless you need an sms: link.
- Scan the preview on a phone to check the message that opens.
- Download or print the code.
Examples
- A poster asking people to text JOIN to sign up for alerts.
- A voting booth at a school fair with one code per option.
- A rural shop that takes orders from customers without mobile data.
Frequently asked questions
Is the SMS sent automatically?
No. The messaging app opens with the number and text, and the person decides whether to send.
What is the difference between SMSTO and sms:?
SMSTO is an older format that almost every camera and QR app reads, message included. The sms: link is the formal standard, but some older phones ignore the message.
Does sending cost money?
It depends on the plan of the person who sends it: many plans include SMS, others charge per message. Mention it on the poster if your audience may pay.
Can the message have accents?
Yes, but accented messages may count as more than one SMS on some carriers. Plain short texts are cheaper and read the same everywhere.
Can I change the number later?
No. The code is static, so a new number needs a new code.
Privacy and permanence
The number and the message are encoded in your browser and are not sent to our servers. The code keeps working as long as the number can receive SMS.
