PDF QR code

Point to a PDF that is already online.

Paste the public link of a PDF that is already online: your website, Google Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive.

The code opens the file where it is hosted. Octoolbox does not store, upload or open your PDF. If the file is deleted, moved or stops being public, the printed code stops working.

What it does

A PDF QR code opens a document that is already published online, such as a menu, a catalog, a manual or a price list. You paste the public link of the file and the code points to it; the PDF itself is not stored or uploaded here.

For Google Drive, a shorter view link of the same file is suggested, which makes the code easier to scan. Remember to share the file as available to anyone with the link, otherwise people will be asked to request access.

How to use

  1. Upload the PDF to your site or cloud storage and copy the public link.
  2. Paste the link; for Google Drive, accept the suggested shorter link.
  3. Use Test the link to confirm the file opens without asking for access.
  4. Download or print the code.

Examples

  • A restaurant menu in PDF that the owner updates in the same file.
  • The manual of a household appliance printed on the box.
  • A price list for resellers handed out at a trade fair.

Frequently asked questions

Do you store my PDF?

No. You paste only the link to a file that is already online. The code points to it, and this site never stores, uploads or opens the PDF.

Can I update the PDF without changing the code?

Yes, if the link stays the same. Replace the file at the same address on your site, or upload a new version of the same file in Google Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive.

Why do people see a request access page?

The file is not shared publicly. In Google Drive, set general access to Anyone with the link; other services have similar sharing options.

The link does not end in .pdf. Is that a problem?

Not for share links from Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive, which rarely end in .pdf. Test the link to confirm it opens the right document.

What happens if I delete the file?

The code keeps pointing to the old address, which then shows an error. Keep the file online for as long as the printed codes are in use.

Privacy and permanence

The PDF never passes through this site: only its link is turned into a code, in your browser. The static code depends on the file staying online at that address and shared with anyone who has the link.
