What it does
A text QR code holds the words themselves instead of a link. When someone scans it, the phone shows the text on screen, even without an internet connection.
It suits short instructions, a serial number, a greeting card message or a riddle in a treasure hunt. Accents and emoji are kept, and the counter shows how much room is left for the chosen error correction level.
Short texts make simpler codes that read faster. For long content, a page with a URL QR code is usually the better choice.
How to use
- Type or paste the text into the field.
- Watch the counter so the text fits the code.
- Pick colors and the error correction level if you like.
- Scan the preview with your phone to read the result.
- Download or print the code.
Examples
- Assembly steps stuck inside a furniture box.
- A hidden message on a birthday card.
- Clues for a classroom treasure hunt that work offline.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need internet to read a text QR code?
No. The text is inside the code, so any camera or reader app shows it offline. Only links inside the text need a connection to open.
How much text fits?
Up to a few thousand characters at the lowest error correction, but the code gets very dense. For easy scanning, keep it to a few short sentences; the counter shows the exact room left.
Are accents and emoji kept?
Yes. The text is stored as UTF-8, which current phones read correctly. Some very old reader apps may show odd characters, so test with the phones your audience uses.
Can I edit the text later?
No. The code is static, so changing the text means creating and printing a new one.
Is a text QR code a safe place for passwords?
Anyone who scans it can read the text, so treat it like a note anyone can pick up. For Wi-Fi access, the Wi-Fi QR code joins the network without showing the password on screen.
Privacy and permanence
Your text is encoded in your browser and never reaches our servers. The code works offline and has no expiry date.
