Barcode generator
EAN-13 and Code 128 barcodes.

What it does
This generator draws the two most common linear barcodes. EAN-13 is the 13-digit number printed on retail products; type the first 12 digits and the check digit is calculated for you. Code 128 encodes letters, numbers and symbols, which suits internal labels, stock locations and shipping.
You can change the bar height, the width of the thinnest bar and whether the text appears below. Downloads come in PNG, vector SVG and PDF at the real print size.
An EAN-13 number for products sold in stores must be licensed from GS1 in your country; this tool draws the barcode for a number you already have.
How to use
- Choose EAN-13 for retail numbers or Code 128 for text and internal codes.
- Type the number or text; for EAN-13, 12 digits are enough.
- Adjust the bar height, the thinnest bar width and the text below.
- Download PNG, SVG or PDF and print at 100% scale.
Examples
- A small brand printing the EAN-13 it licensed on its jam jars.
- Shelf location labels such as A-03-02 in a warehouse, in Code 128.
- Library books with a Code 128 label for the loan system.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to type the check digit?
No. For EAN-13, type the first 12 digits and the check digit is calculated. If you type all 13, the last one is checked and refused when it is wrong.
Can I invent an EAN-13 number for my product?
Not for products sold in stores. Retail numbers are licensed by GS1 so each one is unique worldwide; for internal use, Code 128 is the safer choice.
I have a 12-digit UPC-A code. What do I do?
Add a 0 at the start to form the equivalent EAN-13. The bars stay compatible with scanners that read UPC-A.
What can Code 128 contain?
Letters, numbers, spaces and common symbols, up to 80 characters. This tool accepts only unaccented characters (ASCII), which every scanner reads the same way.
How do I print it at the right size?
Use the PDF, which has the real dimensions (very long Code 128 texts are reduced to fit the page), and print at 100% without fit to page. Keep the white margins on both sides, because scanners need them.
Privacy and permanence
The number or text is encoded into bars in your browser and never sent to our servers. Printed barcodes are static: a new number needs a new label.
